Both parties emphasised that Estonia and Portugal are good partners in international organisations and that this reciprocal support and co-operation will certainly continue in the future. As European Union border states, Estonia and Portugal have many similar interests in the EU, and it is good to stand for these together.

President Cavaco Silva congratulated Estonia on its upcoming adoption of the euro and expressed interest in the Estonian government’s policy to stabilise the economy during the global crisis situation. He stressed that Portugal’s experience shows that adopting the euro opens many doors, but it does not solve all problems and constant work is needed to ensure competitiveness and support innovative solutions. “Both Estonia and Portugal pay a lot of attention to information technology, the adoption of renewable energy sources, and innovation, and it is these areas that could be the basis for closer contacts among business groups,” noted Ambassador Mõttus.

Marin Mõttus was born in Tallinn on 4 April 1960. In 1983 Mõttus graduated from the Estonian language and literature department of Tartu University and in 2000 she earned her master’s degree in international relations from the Madrid School of Diplomacy and Complutense University. Before joining the foreign service Marin Mõttus worked as a teacher in secondary school and at Tallinn University of Technology and as a news editor for the Baltic News Service; she also translated literature from Spanish to Estonian. Mõttus has worked at the Foreign Ministry since 1997, when she assumed the role of Foreign Ministry press spokesperson. From 2002-2005 Mõttus worked as an economic diplomat in the Estonian Embassy in Madrid; following that she was a division director in the Foreign Ministry’s political department. Before being named the Estonian ambassador to Portugal, Marin Mõttus was at the head of Estonia’s special mission in Israel, and since the opening of an embassy in Tel Aviv in 2009 she was Estonia’s charge d’affaires ad interim to Israel. Ambassador Mõttus speaks English, Spanish, Russian and Finnish.

SPOKESPERSON’S OFFICE
+372 367 7654
pressitalitus@mfa.ee

Fri, 15 Oct 2010 08:54:42 GMT http://www.embest.pt/frontpage/news_events/aid-581 Estonia to reintroduce border control at its internal borders during the meeting of Nato Foreign Ministers http://www.embest.pt/frontpage/news_events/aid-560
For security reasons, Estonia will reintroduce border control at its internal borders during the unofficial meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers from 17 – 23 April in Tallinn. Children above the age of 6 are also required to give fingerprints, children below the age of 6 will not have to give fingerprints. As the result of compulsory fingerprint-giving, the procedure of applying for repeated passports by mail will change. In the future, it is possible to apply for a repeated passport by mail only in the case when the person has already received one passport containing fingerprints and less than 2 years have passed since the issuance of this passport.

It is possible to apply for a repeated passport by mail until June 28th, 2009 (passport applications bearing a postal stamp of a later date will not be reviewed without fingerprints - the applicant will have to go to an Estonian foreign representation or to Estonia to give fingerprints). Applications for repeated passports until June 28th, 2009 can be submitted by those persons, whose passport will expire soon (a few months are left until the expiration date) or by persons who for any other reason would like to receive a new passport. There are no changes in the procedure of applying for the initial passport (applications can be turned in at Estonian foreign representations, it is not possible to submit them to the Honorary Consuls).
