Estonian Ambassador to Portugal Presented His Credentials


Yesterday, 30 October, Estonian Ambassador to Portugal Andres Rundu presented his credentials to President Aníbal Cavaco Silva.

Following the ceremony, Ambassador Rundu and President Silva acknowledged that relations between Estonia and Portugal are very good in every category. Examples of good cooperation between Estonia and Portugal include Estonia’s special mission in Brazil, which is initially located in the rooms of the Portuguese Embassy in the capital, and the activities of Portuguese diplomats who are working in the Estonian embassies in Vilnius and Astana.

At yesterday’s meeting, Estonian Ambassador Rundu and Portuguese President Silva found that in the future the two countries could further intensify economic relations.

President Silva was interested in the developments of Estonian economy. Andres Rundu provided the Portuguese president with an overview of Estonia’s most important investors and trade partners and described the effects of transition to the Euro.

Andres Rundu was born in Paide in 1960. He graduated from the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in 1983 with a specialization in mathematics and physics education. He has also studied in the Estonian School of Diplomacy and the Diplomatic School of Spain. Rundu has been in the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1992. In the period 2004-2009 he was the Ambassador of Estonia to Spain as well as the non-resident Ambassador to the Principality of Andorra.
